DAY 1:     Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City, The Hutongs, Temple of Heaven

At 8:30 AM, our professionally licensed tour guide will greet you at the lobby of your hotel.  The tour will begin with a drive to Tiananmen Square.   Get an insight into the history of the structure hearing of how Chairman Mao and the rise of communism links to the palace.  We will stroll through Tiananmen square and enter the Forbidden City as they are connected.  Our guide will entertain you with some stories and anecdotes while describing the splendor of the Forbidden City.  Soak in the majesty of this grand palace and hear of the palace’s turbulent yet prosperous past as you stroll.   Wear comfortable shoes on the tour as there is a lot of walking and feel free to ask questions and take pictures.  After visiting the Forbidden City we will take you to local restaurant to give you a taste of authentic Chinese cuisine.  Soon after lunch, we will take a rickshaw ride through the clean and narrow alleyways in The Hutongs.  Take in the chirp of the birds and the hustle and bustle of the vegetable vendors.  Experience the local life of old town Beijing, meet retired locals and share stories.  After the Hutongs, we will visit the stunning Temple of Heaven visited by the emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties for annual ceremonies of prayer to Heaven. You can join the locals doing their exercises. The Temple of Heaven is one of several worship sites in the capital where the emperors offered sacrifices. It was constructed between 1406 and 1420 during the reign of Ming Emperor YongLe (reign: 1403-1424), who also oversaw the creation of the Forbidden City during the same period.  We will head back to your hotel after a long but enchanting day.

DAY 2:   The Great Wall at Mutinayu (Skip the Line) and Summer Palace

Our guide will meet you at the hotel lobby around 8.30 AM. On the way to The Mutianyu Great Wall, if time permits, we can stop to take photos at the "Bird's Nest"– the Beijing National Stadium that hosted the 2008 Summer Olympics.  After arriving at the Great Wall, you can take time to marvel at this wondrous structure and the surrounding hillsides while canvassing the watch towers.  Mutianyu is less crowded than the more famous Badaling.  You can either choose to hike up the walk or use the cable car instead.  We will explore the wall for roughly 2 hours before having lunch at a local Chinese restaurant.  After exploring the Great Wall, we will go to biggest imperial garden-Summer Palace.  It is  a World Heritage Site and is renowned for its landscapes and architecture.   We will then head back to your hotel to end a wonderful day of exploration.
